Danish pianist, composer and improviser Rasmus Sørensen moved to New York City in 2018 and has since gained widespread recognition for his accessible yet forward-looking sound both as a musician and composer. After having collaborated with a considerable amount of artists across genres over the years as well as having toured extensively, he started releasing his own music in 2022.

Born and raised in a musically active family in northern Denmark, Rasmus quickly picked up a passion for music and started working as a pianist at a young age. He attended the jazz program at Skurups Folkhögskola in Sweden in 2016 and moved to Copenhagen the year after, trying out life as a professional musician. A year later he attended the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Arts program, where he was offered a full-tuition scholarship based on his audition. Here he was mentored by some of the greatest living musicians and educators including Buster Williams, Phil Markowitz, Stefon Harris, Dayna Stephens, John Riley, Lenny White, Ingrid Jensen and Rogerio Boccato.

Eventually he established himself as one of the busiest pianists in New York City and got to perform at prestigious venues such as The Jazz Gallery, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Smalls Jazz Club, Mezzrow, Close Up and the now-closed 55 Bar.

He decided to relocate to Copenhagen in 2023, but found the opportunity to record a trio album with drummer Kendrick Scott and bassist Alex Claffy before making the move. The album, Balancing Act, was released March 15th 2024 on April Records and resulted in Rasmus winning a Danish Music Award Jazz as Musician Of The Year.

Most recently, on November 15th 2024, his third studio album At The Right Time was released. It features the same band as on his first album, namely bassist Jon Henriksson and drummer Francesco Ciniglio. The album has been described as "A Masterful Blend of Emotion and Innovation in Contemporary Jazz ", (theodysseyonline.com), and "A Fabulous work" (All About Jazz).

Rasmus maintains a busy touring schedule, performing with his own band as well as with a multitude of other groups... check out the Shows section for more!
